I felt unmoored from my own existence, my identity
I was driving to my mother's house after hearing my father had passed away.
I was driving home to my mom's from my job in Evanston. I dont remember driving but I ended up on 119th and Ashland my usual exit. I had been crying a lot,and wanted to pull myself together. While waiting at the stop light, I became aware of my surroundings and a man in his car looked me right in the eye and mouthed "Are you okay?".
In that moment, I answered yes and I knew it to be true. My grief was still there but I knew it wouldn't end me.
It transformed my grief. It was a light that I would not have had if not for that moment. It saved me, knowing that I could live beyond that moment.
